Point No Point Lighthouse   •   Hansville, WA

My first visit to Point No Point was on a cloudy day in July 1999. I visited again on a sunny afternoon in August 1999 to get some better pictures. The lighthouse is in a secluded area at the tip of the Kitsap Peninsula. On one of my visits fishermen were fishing right on the beach, in amongst a handful of sunbathers. A nice place to spend a day at the beach. Note that this light is strikingly similar to West Point Light in Seattle.

This station was first established in 1879; the Fresnel lens was installed in 1898. A wood fog signal building was added in 1900. The Hahd-Skus Treaty was signed at Point No Point on January 26, 1855; this treaty transferred ownership of land from the Sklallum Skokomish To-An-Hooch Cheemakum Indian tribe to the U.S. Government. The land that was transferred reached from the crest of the Olymic mountains to Puget Sound. The U.S. was represented by Isaac Stevens, governor of Washington, which at the time was still a territory.

From Seattle: Take I-5 North or WA-99 to WA-104 (Exit 177 from I-5). Head Northwest on WA-104 to Kingston-Edmonds Ferry. Take the ferry west across the sound to WA-104. Follow WA-104 until it meets Hansville Road. At the intersection of WA-104 and Hansville Road exists no street signs. Look for five 6-foot statues of gnomes on the southwest corner (to your left). An Albertson's supermarket will be on your right. Take a right at this intersection onto Hansville Road. Follow Hansville Road a few miles until you see the water. On your right will be a sign for Point No Point lighthouse.
